As you well know by now, a mistress is a woman in charge or power. Well I had no power last night or most of yesterday while Tropical Storm Irma rolled throughout South Georgia.
But I was safe! The Red Cross has guidelines for safety first so that we do not add to the problem. As of 8 pm Sunday night we were under a “no travel and shelter in place” mode. That means only emergency travel is authorized. Then, at 11 am Monday as the worst of Irma rolled over us, we were under a firm “shelter in place” order. That meant that we could not leave our buildings even for a cigarette. (Yeah, some folks were pretty antsy by the end of that!) That order lifted at 5 pm and we are authorized travel as of 8 am today.
Cell service was spotty during the storm so I was unable to call home. But we had games, flashlights, food and running water, so it was like a slumber party. The hardest part was losing all connectivity and then trying to find out status of FL and GA to know what we would be up against.
Today, we will head out to assess our shelters and their needs. Word is that many in Georgia will shut down today… But many south Floridians will need continued shelter, so it is likely operations will head there.
Please pray for our eastern coastal areas of FL and GA…..
