Not My Jesus, Not for The Faint Hearted

Author Bob Fabey gets real, real quick in his book, Not My Jesus.  Calling out the nature of Christians to make Jesus over into a caricature for their own comfort, at times it feels he reaches a bit too far, (calling Jesus a pig/dog hater-and dismissive of burial rights) but he is making a point here, not composing a doctoral thesis; We miss out when we put Jesus in a box.

Fabey’s brash style is refreshing if difficult to swallow at times and certainly not for the faint hearted. I doubt they will make it past the first 2 chapters to get to the meat of the text.  The truth he speaks is difficult and reflective of the manner of Jesus Christ himself.

If you think Jesus is neat, clean, kind, sweet, and never angry, sweaty, real, or smelly, Fabey will challenge you to let the real Jesus out and invite you into a new way of engaging the world.

If you are challenged to call yourself Christian because of what other Christians are doing or, better yet, not doing, consider Fabey’s view and let #realjesus into the picture.

Overall, this short read is thick with insight into why we want to make over Jesus and then disclaim the real one as #notmyjesus.
